Bukit Gasing initiative offers lifeline to residents with affordable wound care services

A NEW collaborative effort between the Pejabat ADUN Bukit Gasing and MyHealerDoc is bringing much-needed relief to residents struggling with access to affordable wound care.

The initiative aims to bridge a critical gap in healthcare services, particularly for the growing population of diabetic patients and the “sandwich generation” caregivers who are faced with patients who have limited mobility and rising healthcare costs.

“An estimated 2.4 million Malaysians grapple with wound care challenges,” revealed MyHealerDoc founder and CEO Jagadesan Chandra Mohan in a joint statement on Tuesday (May 7).

“Limited mobility, transportation costs, and lack of family support often create insurmountable barriers to proper treatment. This, unfortunately, leads to preventable limb loss, especially among diabetic patients.”

The initiative specifically addresses the concerns of Malaysia’s ageing population and the “sandwich generation” who often juggle caring for young children and ageing parents.

“Senior citizens require assistance, and the burden often falls on women who may have to leave their jobs to care for both their parents and young children,” explained Petaling Jaya city councillor and project manager Kusaaliny Mahendran.

“We hope this initiative empowers faster recovery for patients facing mobility limitations and eases the burden of travelling to distant clinics in order to receive treatment for their wound.

“Getting in and out of vehicles is extremely difficult for those who have wounds especially if they do not have a full-time caregiver.”

Through this partnership, Bukit Gasing residents will have access to professional wound care services at a significantly reduced cost of RM60 per session.

B40 residents will benefit further with a subsidised rate of RM30 per session, borne jointly by Pejabat ADUN Bukit Gasing and MyHealerDoc.

This subsidised rate stands in stark contrast to the typical RM120 charged at private clinics which excludes the travel cost and time off by loved ones in order to provide the care.

“Initiatives like this become increasingly crucial as Malaysia’s population ages,” stressed Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran.

“We hope this programme serves as a model for ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare reaches all segments of society.” – May 7, 2024
