Bursa Malaysia ends below 1,400-mark, risk-off mode triggers selling

BURSA Malaysia struggled to stay above the 1,400 level today as negative sentiment and risk off mode persist amid the banking sector woes.

At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) lost 3.10 points, or 0.22 per cent, to end at its intraday low of 1,396.60 compared to Friday’s close of 1,399.70.

The market bellwether opened 1.25 points higher at 1,400.95 and hit intraday high of 1,404.65 in the early morning session.

The broader market was negative with decliners outpacing gainers 576 to 280, while 411 counters were unchanged, 1,005 untraded and 24 others suspended.

Turnover, however, rose to 3.37 billion units valued at RM1.72 bil from 2.99 billion units worth RM1.91 bil at last Friday’s close. – March 27, 2023
