Bursa Malaysia extends gains at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia has extended its earlier gains at mid-morning on buying support in index-linked counters amid positive market sentiments.

At 11.06am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 16.51 points or 1.15% to 1,453.27 from 1,436.76 at the close on Friday.

Market breadth was positive as gainers surpassed losers 536 to 299, while 354 counters were unchanged, 706 untraded and 24 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 2.81 billion units worth RM1.92 bil.

Gains in Hartalega, Top Glove, Petronas Chemicals and Dialog helped to boost the composite index by 16.81 points.

Meanwhile, among the other heavyweights, Public Bank gained two sen to RM15.28, IHH perked four sen to RM5.47, Petronas Chemicals chalked up 16 sen to RM6.06, while Maybank and Tenaga slipped two sen each to RM7.41 and RM12.18, respectively.

Of the actives, Key Alliance added one sen to 8.5 sen, GD Express bagged 4.5 sen to 41.5 sen, while Velesto inched up half-a-sen to 16.5 sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index was 117.71 points higher at 10,294.83, the FBMT 100 Index increased 117.67 points to 10,142.99, while the FBM Emas Shariah Index soared 211.11 points to 11,831.45.

The FBM ACE advanced 97.59 points to 5,485.38 and the FBM 70 improved 159.14 points to 12,854.3.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index added 1.77 points to 126.16, the Financial Services Index lost 14.34 points to 12,366.39 and the Plantation Index earned 51.56 points to 6,774.41. – May 27, 2020, Bernama
