Bursa Malaysia remains higher at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR: The uptrend momentum on Bursa Malaysia continued into the afternoon session, backed by strong buying support in index-linked counters, despite a mixed performance on regional bourses.

At 3.03 pm, key index FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 9.99 points to 1,397.78 from 1,387.78 at Wednesday’s close.

Gains in Tenaga, Nestle, Maxis, and Digi helped to lift the composite index by 10.88 points.

The overall market breadth remained bullish with advancers trouncing decliners 540 to 230, while 368 counters were unchanged, 766 untraded and 19 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 3.04 billion shares worth RM1.45 bil.

Of the heavyweights, Tenaga rose 34 sen to RM12.58, Public Bank bagged eight sen to RM15.92, IHH Healthcare added one sen to RM5.24, Maxis perked up 19 sen to RM5.49, while Petronas Chemicals was flat at RM5.42.

Maybank, however, eased two sen to RM7.62.

Among actives, Xidelang added one sen to eight sen, Hibiscus inched down half-a-sen to 47 sen, while both Lambo and Netx were flat at two sen and 1.5 sen respectively.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index was 83.86 points higher at 9,693.36, the FBM ACE put on 90.06 points to 4,397.85, the FBM Emas Shariah Index chalked up 119.52 points to 10,765.92, the FBMT 100 Index increased 79.43 points to 9,584.84 and the FBM 70 climbed 140.25 points to 11,451.32.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged up 0.63 point to 116, the Financial Services Index advanced 52.6 points to 12,470.31 and the Plantation Index improved 6.13 points to 6,292.76. – April 16, 2020, Bernama
