Bursa Malaysia remains firm at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia remained firm at mid-afternoon, and continued to be supported by buying in heavyweight stocks led by the financial services sector.

At 3.05 pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) went up 9.58 points to 1,470.18 from Tuesday’s close of 1,478.64.

At the opening bell, the key index opened 0.31 point easier at 1,478.33.

On the broader market, losers continued to lead gainers by 471 to 320, with 339 counters unchanged, 868 untraded and 18 others suspended.

Turnover amounted to 1.78 billion shares worth RM1.24 bil.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank gained four sen to RM8.45, Tenaga and IHH added two sen each to RM12.52 and RM5.62 respectively, Public Bank rose six sen to RM17.82 and CIMB increased eight sen to RM4.58.

Of the actives, Tiger Synergy and MLabs edged up half-a-sen each to four sen and three sen respectively, Advanced Synergy expanded 1.5 sen to 14 sen, while Vortex was flat at eight sen.

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index advanced 51.56 points to 10,482.80, the FBM Emas Shariah Index rose 51.69 points to 11,122.68, and the FBM 70 improved 31.78 points to 12,763.09.

The FBMT 100 Index increased 57 points to 10,310.01 and the FBM Ace was 12.34 points better at 5,261.34.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index edged up 2.22 points to 134.56, the Financial Services Index jumped 113.59 points to 14,426.91 and the Plantation Index boosted 27.61 points to 6,777.66. – March 4, 2020, Bernama
