TO boost the nation’s competitive edge and ease of doing business, the Malaysian Productivity Commission (MOC) will be holding a workshop on how to smoothen the efficiency of regulatory delivery, in dealing with construction permits (DCP).
“The workshop will identify the root causes affecting regulatory delivery in DCP and develop solutions, as well as action plans in managing the challenges.
“It will be conducted on Feb 8 and attended by stakeholders from the public and private sectors. The workshop will be facilitated by PEMUDAH (The Special Task Force to Facilitate Business), through its Technical Working Group on DCP,” MPC director general Datuk Abdul Latif Haji Abu Seman said, in a statement.
Latif said that since the World Bank’s Doing Business Report was launched in 2007, Malaysia has made remarkable progress in terms of making the nation more business friendly over the last decade.
“Malaysia was ranked at the 137th position, out of 190 economies, in 2007. Over six years, we have improved to double digit in 2013 and in the recent years, we moved to number 3 in 2019 and number 2 last year.
“Despite the progress, a lot must be done to improve the efficiency of regulatory delivery of DCP,” he added.
Elaborating on the workshop, PEMUDAH co-chair Datuk Andy KH Seo said that it was important for both the public and private sector to come together and improve the regulatory delivery in DCP.
“This workshop will be attended by relevant Government bodies, industry players and technical agencies aimed at finding solutions to the challenges faced by our business community,” he said.
Among the issues the workshop will be addressing, Seo added, is the inconsistencies between regulations and practice in obtaining construction permits approval, confusing procedures of Open Space Ratio requirements and issues on Centralised Labour Quarters (CLQ).
“At the end, we intend to produce solutions to ensure a seamless mechanism from the application until the commencement of construction work,” he remarked. – Feb 7, 2021.
