Cathay Pacific Malaysia-Hong Kong flights unaffected by protests

GEORGE TOWN: Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd has not reduced its flight frequency between Hong Kong and Malaysia despite ongoing protests in the semi-autonomous Chinese territory, said its country manager for Malaysia and Brunei, Anna Choi.

She said the airline continues to operate two flights from Penang a day to Hong Kong and four flights from Kuala Lumpur since June last year.

“In our early planning of flight promotion, we increased our flight schedule to the whole world, (but) since the events in Hong Kong, we have reduced a bit on those flights. We looked at those flights which got a lower flight (frequency) and reduced the flight capacity.

“However, flights between Hong Kong and Malaysia are still unaffected,” she told reporters after a Penang Chinese New Year lou sang luncheon with Cathay Pacific here today.

She also said that a number of the carrier’s flights from Penang and Kuala Lumpur reached full passenger capacity during the last Christmas period.

Meanwhile, Choi said, Cathay Pacific has yet to play any official role in line with the Visit Malaysia 2020 tourism campaign but would make the necessary efforts to support the Malaysia market.

“From time to time, we do have a lot of tactical promotions and we offer competitive pricing for all the destinations,” she added. – Jan 6, 2020 Bernama
