GORGEOUS and talented Chong Hwa Independent High School choir members who have recently demonstrated the power of music in bridging cultural divides have been forewarned not to fall for PAS Youth members who could be on the look-out for non-Malay wife candidates to increase the Islamist party’s vote count.
“Wow, so cute … Got to hide a little. Am afraid of PAS Youth coming with marriage proposal,” teased a commenter to a social media post by pro-Madani backer Najib Bakar (@najib_bakar_) of the choir group which was crowned champion of the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka 2024 Language and Literature Festival competition recently.
Patutlah jadi Johan Koir Festival Bahasa dan Sastera 2024, walaupun koir dari sekolah Cina.

The social media influencer has praised the choir group for emerging top despite coming from a Chinese school.
“Bahasa Jiwa Bangsa.. ♥️ (language is the soul of the nation). Congratulations Chong Hwa Independent High School!” he penned.
For the uninitiated, Selangor PAS Youth secretary Aubidullah Fahim Ibrahim has put forth a proposal at the recent PAS’ 65th annual muktamar (equivalent of general assembly) in Jerantut, Pahang for the party’s youth wing members to commit to cross-ethnic or cross-cultural marriage.
“The reason is that when we marry someone from another ethnicity or culture, we would not win only one more vote but insyaAllah, we’ll be able to get 10 or even hundreds of votes from the non-Malays or non-Muslims,” Malaysiakini cited his remark which elicited laughter and noises from the floor.
But one foresighted commenter warned matrimonial-minded PAS Youth never to count the chicken before they hatch for fear of the “Ah Moi (young/unmarried Chinese girls) charming their future husbands to vote for DAP (PAS’ archenemy) instead”.
One commenter called for protection to be accorded to the lasses “as there are people busy on the look-out for future wives (not first but third or fourth)” while others teased that PAS Youth members “are sure to watch the video over and over again” for that reason with one reminded that “the girls’ parents are mostly company directors”.
On a more serious note, some commenters are least impressed with the choir’s gift of music by contending that their perfect harmony stems from memorising and repeated bouts of rehearsals.
“Go invite them to speak in Bahasa Malaysia,” teased some likely opposition-slant commenters. – Sept 15, 2024
