Cherating beach not so pet-friendly anymore after a spate of poisoning, culling

WHAT was supposed to be a delightful excursion to Cherating beach turned sour when Facebook (FB) user Siew Yung discovered that her dearest friend Foo C Yong’s sweet and gentle dog, Sally, was found dead as a result of the callous actions of humans who laced morsels of food with extremely deadly poison.

To make matters worse, these vicious culprits then disseminated the poison around the beach and its surrounding area.

This has also affected numerous stray cats and dogs in the beach vicinity. At the time of writing, the hideous act has claimed the lives of six dogs and 10 cats. One of the victims was Sally.

“It’s an abominably awful way to take a life as frothing begins within 10 minutes of consumption, followed by violent convulsions and it would take less than 30 minutes for this poison to kill a 20kg animal after consumption,” penned Siew on her FB page.

Scattering poison on a public beach would not only harm animals but children as well. They play in the sand and there’s poison there. These are no ordinary poison – it’s potent and dangerous to humans simultaneously, according to Siew.

Meanwhile, FB user Pamela Lim shared her sympathy:

Moreover, user@cheratinggoodboys took to Instagram to shed light on the disheartening matter.

Above all else, Siew went on to express her desire for something to be done to end this insanity. “The dogs and cats belong to owners who love them. Stop these senseless killings!”

Meanwhile, Samaritan Sachiyo Horio posted a warning to pet owners on the FB page of Kuantan Animal Rescue & Education (KARE) not to bring any of their pets to Cherating beach right now.

“More than few dogs and cat killed by strong poison in these few days. Both friendly strays and pets became victims. Heartless human doing intentional murder,” he added. – March 23, 2023
