Chery rewards national badminton heroes Zii Jia, Aaron Chia, Wooi Yik with new SUV for their bronze feat

LONG hours of training, almost superhuman dedication, muscle aches and a long range of other injuries are the constant companion for an athlete aspiring to bring home a medal from the Paris 2024 Olympics. This is certainly the case for our Malaysian contingent.

With that said, it is only fair that their herculean efforts are being generously rewarded. In a recent tweet, automotive influencer @paultantk gave us all a reason to be an athlete with the announcement that Chery Malaysia will reward national shuttlers Aaron Chia, Soh Wooi Yik and Lee Zii Jia, each with a Chery Tiggo 7 Pro.

Paultan.org stated that the SUV is sold at RM123,000 (on the road price without insurance). At the price, the Tiggo 7 Pro is said to be a strong contender against the Proton X70 compared to other competitors in its class such as the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5.

In fact, it may also disrupt SUVs from the B-segment class such as Toyota Corolla Cross and the Honda HR-V.

Paul’s tweet has since garnered 189.300 views and 1,100 reposts on the X platform. The generosity of Chery Malaysia did not go unnoticed by netizen @eddypopia who criticised our local car manufacturers for their lack of support for the athletes.

A netizen, however, raised his concern regarding the quality of the said vehicles.

To recap, the China automotive brand previously announced that Malaysian athletes who successfully bring home a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games will receive a reward in the form of a sports utility vehicle (SUV).

Chery Malaysia president Leo Chen said the prize was a Tiggo 8 Pro SUV for the gold medalist, an Omoda E5 for the silver medalist, and a Tiggo 7 Pro for the bronze medalist.

If the pride of carrying our nation’s name to victory does not motivate, perhaps the prize of a brand-new SUV should do the trick. Moving forward, who shall be the next lucky winner? – Aug 6, 2024
