Chevy Beh’s demise at 37: The loss of an enterprising young Malaysian

THE co-founder and CEO of Malaysia’s digital health technology solution provider BookDoc Datuk Chevy Beh, 37, has passed away.

Based on sources cited by the Waga Biz portal, Chevy collapsed after a polo match last Sunday (Aug 21). He breathed his last on Tuesday (Aug 23).

The eldest son of BP Healthcare Group founder and chairman Datuk Beh Chun Chuan was a former investment banker in New York after graduating from Harvard University. He returned to Malaysia to assist his father in managing the company.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dato’ Chevy Beh, the eldest son of Datuk Dr Beh Chun Chuan – Chairman of BP Healthcare Group on Aug 23, 2022.

The founder of the Malaysian MedTech – BookDoc, an esteemed polo player of BP Polo Club, a passionate entrepreneur and an articulate leader who is widely known for his trend-changing contributions to the healthcare industry, Dato’ Chevy’s legacy will not be forgotten and he will always be greatly missed.

To keep his life motto going, let’s continue to live life to the fullest and give our very best in everything we do, just like how he had always been. We welcome your prayers and are thankful for your kind thoughts during this difficult time.

Meanwhile, Warga Biz which deemed itself as Malaysia fastest growing business and lifestyle digital media platform for young entrepreneurs outlined Chevy’s four impressive accomplishments as an entrepreneur:

  • Helping his father in growing BP Healthcare to become one of Malaysia’s largest healthcare companies: In 2009, Chevy served as the managing director of BP Healthcare Group, growing the company to become one of Malaysia’s largest healthcare corporations. He expanded the company’s customer base to over two million and its network of branches from 50 to more than 200 in six years.
  • Co-founder of BookDoc – an online and mobile healthcare platform: In 2014, Chevy co-founded BookDoc with Joel Neoh, the former CEO of Groupon Asia-Pacific. BookDoc is an online and mobile healthcare platform that allows users to search and make appointments with healthcare professionals.

To date, BookDoc has a presence in five countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Thailand. Among its early investors were Prince Abdul Qawi, a member of Brunei’s royal family; former international banker Datuk Yvonne Chia; and a relative of Chinese billionaire Stanley Ho. The company currently serves 20 Asian cities and aims to be Southeast Asia’s go-to healthcare app.

On July 2022, the Ipoh-born Chevy told Bernama that BookDoc plans to invest RM4 mil in 2023 for its technological development following the rise in demand for healthcare. He also said the company has allocated RM1 mil yearly for its mobile application and planned to rope in more reward partners by end-2022.

  • A distinguished polo player: Chevy was formerly the captain of the England Under-21 team. Having played polo all over the world, his most memorable experience was to play alongside the British royal family made up of Prince William and Prince Harry. Chevy was also appointed as a member of the Panel of Experts for the Ministry of Youth and Sports. – Aug 25, 2022
