Child among three dead in Port Klang boat tragedy, parents missing

A TRAGIC boat accident off Tanjung Harapan has claimed the lives of three individuals, including a three-year-old child, with two more still missing.

The victims were reportedly test-driving a recently repaired boat from the Royal Selangor Yacht Club when the incident occurred around 4.30pm yesterday (June 6).

Selangor Maritime Director Maritime Captain Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh, said preliminary investigations suggest the boat lost control before capsizing 0.3 nautical miles west of Tanjung Harapan.

Onboard were six individuals, with only one survivor, 17-year-old Chang Yan Qin.

The deceased include Darren Gan, 3, who was found in the front section of the capsized boat alongside Cheu Son Hin, 50.

Another victim, Fong Yong Sen, 29, was found nearby. All three were confirmed dead, and their remains have been sent to the Forensics Department of Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang.

Still missing are Darren’s parents – Gan Hon Tat, 32, and Careen Man, 29 – both from Klang Utama. Search and rescue operations led by the Selangor Maritime Enforcement Agency, with the help of other agencies, are ongoing.

Family members gathered at the hospital from early morning, grieving the loss while awaiting further updates on the missing couple. — June 7, 2025
