A VIRAL video that has garnered one million views on the X platform shows a split among the Chinese Malaysian community when it comes to supporting local athletes.
Asked who they would support if they were to choose between a Malaysian or a Chinese athlete, some of those interviewed by the channel said they would support a Chinese athlete, while others said they would still support Malaysia no matter what.
In the brief video, seven individuals were interviewed by the TikTok channel signed @Sgkakinang, a Singaporean content creator.
DALAM SUKAN: Sebahagian besar mereka akan menyokong atlet China jika berdepan dengan atlet Melayu pada Malaysia.
Antara alasan ialah mereka ditindas kerajaan di negara ini.

Some backed Malaysian Malays citing national identity, while the rest favoured China.
Those who support the local athletes cited their residency and nationality but ethnic ties and dissatisfaction with the treatment they receive locally were the reasons why some would not support a local athlete.
The comments sparked debate on the X platform, with some urging unity regardless of ethnicity, while others pointed to racial and economic disparities as factors influencing opinions.
Cuba dengar dalam nada yang bukan benci dan perkauman. Kita semua rasa ditindas, penindasan pula kita sangka datang dari bangsa berlainan. Padahal dari mereka di puncak kuasa

X users stated that both Chinese and Malays feel the same way. Others said that, at some point, everyone feels abandoned or mistreated here. Some are blaming those who are “monopolising” the country, namely politicians.

Another user pointed out that mostly the older generation who lack internet access, would support China instead of Malaysia. The youth, on the other hand, would support Malaysia, as they state the internet has helped people understand each other better.
