Chinese railway contractor extends aid to East Coast flood victims

AS states on the East Coast continue to be heavily affected by floods, China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd (CCC-ECRL), the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contractor of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, is taking a proactive role to render assistance to the affected local communities.

The CCC-ECRL and Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL), the project and asset owner of the ECRL project, have reached out to the Pahang Local Disaster Operations Control Centres in Maran, Temerloh and Kuantan to offer flood relief assistance.

Since Jan 5, CCC-ECRL’s offices in Maran have provided transportation and supplies to flood relief centres as well as providing manpower and machinery such as excavators to assist in Maran town clean-up efforts.

Moreover, it has also assisted the Public Works Department (JKR) in cordoning off damaged roads in Maran to ensure traffic safety in the affected areas.

In Temerloh, CCC-ECRL has also provided lorries to transport supplies and equipment to flood relief centres as well as nearby area.

“As our offices and employees have also been heavily affected by the flood, we resonate with the hardships faced by the affected communities,” CCC-ECRL managing director Bai Yinzhan pointed out.

“Stay true to our belief in creating value and giving back to the society, we will continue our efforts to lessen the burden of the flood victims by working closely with the local authorities in aiding in flood relief efforts.”

MRL CEO Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak also expressed concern for the thousands of residents in the East Coast states that are devastated due to heavy rain and flood.

“We will try out utmost best to channel various forms of assistance be it machinery, manpower, food supplies, toiletries, blankets, and cash donations to aid in the relief and recovery efforts,” he added. – Jan 11, 2021
