CIMB Group Holdings Bhd has appointed Tengku Azmil Zahruddin Raja Abdul Aziz as CIMB Thai Bank’s chairman and director effective July 19.

Tengku Azmil succeeded Robert Cheim, who has retired.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, CIMB said Tengku Azmil was appointed as the non-independent director of CIMB Group on July 1.
Formerly the chief investment officer at Khazanah Nasional Bhd (Khazanah), he served Khazanah in various senior positions, including deputy managing director and executive director of investments from 2011 to 2022,
it said.
Tengku Azmil was also the managing director and CEO of Malaysia Airlines from 2009 to 2011, having previously held the positions of executive director and chief financial officer.
He is currently the chair of the board of CelcomDigi Bhd and independent non-executive director of Sime Darby Bhd as well as a member of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board,
the bank said.
CIMB also added that Tengku Azmil holds a degree in economics from the University of Cambridge, UK, and is a chartered accountant, as well as an associate member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. – Aug 1, 2024
