Cleaning bot escapes house to clean the streets; netizens think it belongs to the municipal council

IT WAS built to clean crumbs under sofas, not chase a higher calling. Yet one runaway robot vacuum has done exactly that, swapping quiet domestic duty for unexpected internet fame.

In a video post on X, netizen @kongsiviralje showed a Roomba cleaner bot cruising the road, vacuuming the dust while vehicles zoomed by.

“Whose house vacuum is this? Let’s grab it quick before this town is clean. Poor thing, looking for its way home,” he said.

No one knows how the robot broke out of its owner’s house, but we all know it has a good deal of cleaning to do if it is looking to take on the cleaning duty for the entire of Malaysia.

Netizens who followed the post were also tickled pink by this escape artist.

“Surely the employer is fierce. Don’t even talk about the maid, even the vacuum cleaner runs away from the house,” said @missmieta while @bear_meaty joked that the robot belongs to the municipal council.

Also, @JuniverseAI pointed out that the cleaning bot might be lost. Note that this is not the first time an autonomous cleaning bot did something wild.

Even in the past, these bots gained notoriety for making a complete mess out of a house by smearing animal poop all over the floor. Pet owners, especially, must be careful.

Even in less catastrophic situations, the Roomba has a knack for making questionable decisions. It might spend 20 minutes aggressively nudging the same table leg, as though persistence alone will eventually move it.

It might trap itself under a couch it has successfully navigated dozens of times before. In some cases, it simply gives up halfway through a job, stopping in the middle of the room like an overworked employee staging a silent protest.

Away from the jokes, we are all very concerned for the “safety” of the robot too since it is cleaning right in the middle of the road. A passing vehicle would simply run over it and end this adventurous robot’s journey.

Either that or it couldn’t find its way home and ran out of battery. We can only hope and pray that this story will have a happy ending. —Apr 28, 2026
