Clearing the air: No Serba-Petronas collaboration at Dubai Expo 2020

SERBA Dinamik Holdings Bhd has clarified a report in Free Malaysia Today (FMT) yesterday (Dec 29) which implied that the company is collaborating with national oil corporation Petronas at the ongoing Dubai Expo 2020.

Tan Sri Shafee Abdullah

It was never mentioned by Tan Sri Shafee Abdullah who represented Serba Dinamik’s group managing director/CEO Datuk Dr Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court that there is any form of collaboration between both parties, according to the global integrated oil & gas (O&G) service provider.

Abdul Karim, 56, was charged at the court yesterday with submitting false statements to Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd pertaining to Serba Dinamik’s quarterly report on its consolidated results for the quarter and year ended Dec 31, 2020.

The head honcho who was issued a warrant of arrest the day before (Dec 28) pleaded not guilty when the charge was read out to him before Judge Sabariah Othman.

“What was said is that Serba Dinamik is a sponsor to the event just like Petronas as a means to emphasise the importance of the event to the Honourable Sessions Court,” the company pointed out in a media statement.

Shafee has told the court that Abdul Karim has committed to attend the Dubai Expo 2020 to represent Serba Dinamik during the Expo’s Malaysia Day which is scheduled on Jan 8, 2022.

Late yesterday, Bernama has run Petronas’ denial that it has collaborated with Serba Dinamik to jointly attract investors for any project at Dubai Expo 2020.

This follows the FMT report citing Shafee that Abdul Karim will attend the trade expo next month to woo investors and that “Serba Dinamik and Petronas will be bringing in investment to the tune of RM33.9 bil.”

“Petronas denies any form of collaboration with Serba Dinamik to jointly attract investors for any projects at the Expo 2020 Dubai as implied in the statement; neither is there any other collaboration to jointly attract investors using other platforms,” stated the oil giant in a statement.

The Dubai Expo 2020 is a global exhibition and is expected to receive the participation of 192 countries and organisations. The expo is being held from Oct 1, 2021 till March 31, 2022.

Serba Dinamik was last transacted at 35 sen at the close of the mid-day trading on Oct 22 prior to the trading suspension of its shares/warrants, hence giving the company a market capitalisation of RM1.3 bil. – Dec 30, 2021
