A SHORT video clip posted on X (formerly Twitter) by social media influencer JalalMisai (@jllmisai) depicting a lady activist carrying her baby while riding at the back of a 4×4 pick-up truck has generated a lot of comments, most of them chastising the mother for her short-sightedness.
The video purportedly shows actress and songstress Rafidah Ibrahim doing her rounds in Kampung Sungai Baru, Kuala Lumpur urging residents to stay put and not sell their homes to unscrupulous developers.
But what caught the poster’s attention was the fact that the lady saw fit to bring her toddler along. Worse yet, she carried it slung in front of her body whilst standing on the back of a moving pick-up truck.
Soalan serius.. Tak bahaya ke kendong bayi ketika hilux sedang bergerak macam tu..? Tak boleh ke letak anak dalam hilux atau bagi orang lain pegang dulu..? 🤔
Pakcik risau kalau tiba-tiba hilux tu brek mengejut ada kucing melintas ke apa, maknya terjatuh tu habis la bayi tu.. https://t.co/OK0LyBKvTb pic.twitter.com/2XxjeaDSJl

One netizen said there was more to the “protest” than meets the eye, insinuating there was a hidden agenda. But as rightly pointed out, both mother and child could be seriously hurt if there is any sudden braking by the driver.
Many netizens were scathing in their comments at the mother’s apparent lack of common sense. One netizen asked what punitive action can be taken.
With another pointing out that simply standing on the back of a moving pick-up truck is an offence in itself.
Given that there is video evidence, many netizens urged that the book be thrown at this “social activist”. One even tagged Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil to take action.
Some netizens also pointed out the harm to the baby’s hearing having been exposed to such noise pollution.
With another further stating that aside from the shrieking, the poor baby had to endure the mother’s spittle landing on its crown.
One netizen sarcastically pointed out the lady would not have thought of her action as an offence even when it was done to promote political popularity because she probably believed that she had divine protection.
As one netizen stated, many do not engage their God-given intellect, preferring instead to function in “auto-bodoh” mode.
Another quite rightly pointed out that such reckless and negligent behaviour is par-for-the-course here in Malaysia with scores seen daily transporting children in a dangerous manner.
The question that needs to be asked is why Malaysians behave in such a manner. Is it a lack of education or understanding?
When will the authorities take sterner measures against errant parents such as this? FocusM urges that the appropriate action be taken to stop such behaviour. It is dangerous and child-safety should never be compromised.
One netizen perhaps summed up the sentiment best by pointing out that this lady and her ilk were the sort that should lead a child-free existence. – July 19, 2024
