CMCO: E-commerce players adhere to SOPs

WITH the recent announcement regarding the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), e-commerce players say they are adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and continue to enforce precautionary measures for the safety of employees and buyers.

Shopee regional managing director Ian Ho said it would be premature to comment on the situation at this juncture as the company would need to continue to evaluate the government’s announcements — both at the federal and state levels.

“Ultimately, our stance is simple — we will follow the guidance and operate in accordance with the requirements of the law while we continue to enforce all our precautionary measures for the safety of our employees and buyers,” he told Bernama today.

He said these measures include warehouse and hub disinfection — its warehouses and hubs in Malaysia are disinfected daily before every shift; and daily temperature checks — all warehouse staff and Shopee Express riders are checked before they can enter the warehouse and/or before they start their delivery rounds.

Shopee also makes the wearing of masks compulsory — warehouse staff and Shopee Express riders are required to wear masks at all times and to sanitise their hands before handling any parcel.

“All packages are disinfected before they leave the warehouse and/or hub for delivery.

“Going above and beyond the standard delivery safety guidelines, all parcels are disinfected once again upon delivery to our users,” Ho said.

Other than that, he said Shopee also implements contactless delivery.

“Shopee users can opt for their packages to be left at their doorstep, mailboxes or building lobby, to avoid any direct contact during the delivery process.

“For doorstep deliveries, riders will maintain a safe distance of at least one metre between themselves and the buyer at all times. No signatures are required to confirm receipt of parcels during this period,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lazada Malaysia said it is working tirelessly to continue normal operations and maintain smooth logistics services to support the needs of the community.

The company said it is its responsibility as the leading e-commerce platform to serve the country to encourage economic growth during these financially straining times by empowering small and medium enterprises (SMEs), such as through the Lazada Pakej Kedai Pintar stimulus plan.

“Offline businesses, especially those affected by the closing of bazaars this year, are able to digitalise their businesses and sell online by tapping onto Lazada’s end-to-end logistics capabilities.

“This Ramadan, over 15 food operators have been curated to offer ready-to-eat food for customers’ breaking fast convenience during Lazada’s month-long Salam Mubarak campaign,” a Lazada Malaysia spokesperson told Bernama today.

Malaysians are increasingly relying on online platforms like Lazada as their one-stop lifestyle destination for groceries and daily essentials and the trend is expected to continue.
