IT’S NOT easy being an employer nowadays. Even the best of intentions could be misinterpreted.
Recently, a video went viral on X where an employee could be seen complaining about the banquet organised by his company.
According to him, it was a big company, yet the banquet was held in a parking lot. “This is the life of a Malay,” he said.
Netizen @kamaghul who brought the video to light pointed out that the video recorder should be more grateful.
“At least there is a banquet and the food looks a lot. Some companies do not even have a Raya banquet,” he added.
Netizen @wiltedflowerys chipped in to say that her company would collect RM20 from every staff member to organise a banquet. “How about that?” she said for effect.
Bersyukur je lah kak. Company saya nak buat jamuan makan, tapi kutip duit dr staff rm20 sorang. Camana?
Pastu hari kejadian, tak ckup pulak makanannya😂 nasi habis dulu. Ada 20 orang lagi belum makan. Staffnya tak smpai 50 pun😂
cuba pikir sadis tak sadis ahahaha

But one netizen said it was right to point out the indignity of having the banquet in a parking lot. “But it was inappropriate for him to put the word Malay there,” he said.
To this, @AsyikinMusa replied that some hotels also used the parking space for their Buka Puasa banquet. “What’s the problem? The place is wide and open,” she continued.
@hjijiey added that the banquet should appropriately be held at the office. “Why do it in the parking? The isn’t much food which means the participants aren’t that many too,” he wondered.
Also, netizen @username00671 added that his company once held a banquet at the place where people repaired the lorry and trailers. Apparently the view there was much worse compared to a parking lot.
Also, the topic prompted one netizen to share his banquet, which was held in a construction site:
“Why make it at the parking? Because your boss do not trust you. You people have a bad attitude, are dirty, so you get to eat at the parking lot. When the floor is littered with dirt it is not likely that you people will mop it up. Then you call the cleaners to clean it and later, you people are not thankful,” said one netizen.
A realistic @thepetiteA, however, doesn’t care about the food as long as the pay was good.
According to her, her old company paid her a salary of RM1,200 even though she had a degree, and was talking about how great they were for occasionally feeding the staff. —Apr 27, 2025
