Compel developer to build a wall for us, Taman Sri Putra residents tell council

RESIDENTS in Taman Sri Putra in Banting, Kuala Langat are up in arms over a residential project, claiming it is affecting their lives and bringing down their property value.

“It’s actually a residential housing project within an existing housing area. This is ridiculous and is causing much problems to us, including pollution,” 40-year-old M Gunasekaran told FocusM.

Taman Sri Putra houses about 32 families, with Gunasekaran, an engineering manager by profession, living there for the past 13 years.

Relating the matter, Gunasekaran said their ordeal started when the Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) approved a developer’s proposal to build a new housing project at the area, four years ago.

Kumar said that when the project commenced, the residents voiced their displeasure at the MPKL, adding that they also approached Morib state assemblyman Hasnul Baharuddin for assistance.

“At the time, the developer gave a verbal agreement to build a wall to separate both housing areas, when met at the MPKL office.

“The residents believed their promise and went back. Now, the project is about 80% complete but there is no wall separating the housing areas,” he said.

One of the problems plaguing the residents are the back portion of the new houses are facing the front of their homes, which has become an eyesore.

“And obviously, they will be throwing their waste at the back of their houses, which means it will land on our doorsteps.

“Do they want us to tell the new dwellers to not to throw their garbage behind their own houses on a daily basis? It’s ridiculous,” Gunasekaran said.

Stop passing the buck on one another

He added that once the houses are completed, it will also cause air pollution as the smoke and smell from cooking activity will reach their homes.

Gunasekaran also said that without a wall, intruders will have easy access to their homes and vice versa, as there is no barrier separating them.

Another problem they are facing is the pollution caused by the movement of heavy vehicles and machinery for the new project.

“There is a lot of heavy vehicle movements on the roads, which is causing air and noise pollution. Plus, the roads are constantly getting damaged due to the lorries,” Gunasekaran said.

He then urged the MPKL to act on the issue fast as many residents are getting tired of the matter.

Gunasekaran also took the local council to task for attempting to wash its hands off the matter by asking the residents to approach the developer for a solution.

“This project is a private development and the local council has the authority to reprimand the developer if the latter breaches any regulation.

“Our residential area used to be a nice place to live but now it’s a total mess. The valuation of my house has dropped because of the new project.

“We have also sent a letter to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shaari on Jan 7 to intervene on the matter,” Kumar added.

Commenting on the matter, Malaysian Indian Voice (MIV) leader B Anbarasu urged the MPKL to compel the developer to build the wall as promised back four years ago.

“Due to the movement of heavy vehicles, it is also causing tremors in the houses at Taman Sri Putra. We find it nonsensical that both MPKL and the developer keeping passing the buck on one another.

“The local council has the power to compel the developer to fulfill its promise to the residents,” Anbarasu remarked. – Jan 11, 2021
