Confidence vote to be tabled in Dewan Rakyat next month, says PM

PRIME Minister Tan Sri Mahiaddin Yassin has brushed off allegations that he has lost the majority support in Dewan Rakyat.

“During the audience [with the Agong ], I presented to His Majesty that I have received a number of statutory declarations from MPs, convincing me that the majority of Dewan Rakyat members still support me.

“Therefore, the issue of my resignation under Article 43(4) (of the Federal Constitution) is not raised,” he said.

In his special address on Wednesday (Aug 4) Mahiaddin also said that a vote of confidence would be tabled in Parliament when the House reconvenes in September to determine his legitimacy as Prime Minister.

The Agong, he said, has agreed to this proposal.

The Prime Minister’s announcement came after he completed his weekly audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara. – Aug 4, 2021
