“Confused” Pakatan fumbling over MoU decision, UMNO leaders jest

FOLLOWING Pakatan Harapan’s assertion that the UMNO supreme council’s decision has no bearing on the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Government and Opposition, two leaders from the nationalist party mocked the former over it.

“The one who continuously threatens to withdraw from the MoU are Pakatan and Perikatan Nasional. Oddly enough, they also complain when we tell them that the MoU will be end after its deadline.

“They are getting more confusing by the day,” said former UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that he would heed UMNO supreme council’s decision in not extending the MoU beyond July 31, as per its original deadline.

However, he did mention that some changes “could happen” before the expiration date.

“The decision was made yesterday, that the MoU will last until July 31. So, we will wait for July 31, and as of yesterday, the supreme council said there is no need to extend the MoU.

“However, let’s wait until July 31,” Free Malaysia Today reported the Bera MP as saying.

Following the announcement, several Pakatan leaders have come out stating that the decision made by the UMNO supreme council has no bearing on the MoU.

“That is purely between Ismail Sabri and UMNO supreme council. I must reiterate that the MoU is between the Government and Opposition.

“The agreement has nothing to do with the UMNO leadership and we’re not bound by any of their decisions,” DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke was reported as saying earlier today.

Buying time

On that note, UMNO supreme council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said that Pakatan only wanted to extend the MoU to rebuild their strength to take on UMNO in the general election.

However, the former minister jested that Pakatan would continue with its infighting later after defeating UMNO.

(Please give us time and extend the MoU. We are trying to unite to take you guys on. This time, there is no need for new promises. The most important thing is to defeat UMNO in the 15th General Election. Once that is done, we will continue with our infighting) – April 16, 2022
