“SORRY no cure”. That maybe is the price the Halal Inquiry Company direktori [sic] administrator has to pay after it allegedly run down the reputation of almost a century-old Nan Yang Coffee Shop in Segamat, Johor.
Apparently, the self-proclaimed halal watchdog which has been actively training its guns at non-Muslim eateries without JAKIM halal certification has mocked Malay Muslims who patronised Nan Yang to savour “roti bakar” (toast) alongside coffee and the so-called “nasi lemak delivered by Malays”.
This was when the moral police unveiled Nan Yang’s GrabFood list which includes “Mee Pok” – a flat, yellow wheat-and-egg noodles of Teochew origin – purportedly mistaken it as “Mee Pork” (pork noodles) as a scare-mongering tactic.
But this time around, the Nan Yang proprietor is not letting culinary influencer and site operator Amin Sukor a.k.a. Abang Ameen off the hook without teaching a costly legal lesson despite the latter having apologised and “deleted the post after three minutes” for slandering a brand that has existed for 95 years.
“In today’s social media world, only a few minutes are enough for a post to be screenshotted, shared and begin to shape public perceptions,” fumed the anonymous proprietor in the first of a series of Facebook rants.
One can delete the post in three minutes but the question is does taking down a post mean that its impact will also disappear?
In the apology, they themselves admitted they were “mistaken and have misunderstood the wordings and information given”.
We accept the fact that humans do make mistakes. But there is one thing that makes us wonder. Why is it that when their apology post is made, the comments section is not open to the public?

This is what makes us as traders start to question the way issues like this are played out on social media. GO VIRAL → CAUSE DISPUTES → GET TRAFFIC → THEN ASK FOR DONATIONS?
Do entrepreneurs ultimately becoming just a “tool” to get traffic and make profits?
Behind every shop there’re workers. There’re families. There’re salaries to be paid. There’s rental. There’re suppliers. There’re rice bowls of many people at stake
Don’t destroy the good name and rice bowls of other traders for the sake of creating content, engagement or traffic.
LOD on the way
Alongside the lengthy lecture, the Nan Yang proprietor has also lodged a police report and submitted the evidence gathered to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

The next step, according to the business owner, is “to hand this matter over to the lawyers and consider issuing a Letter of Demand (LOD)”.
“We have:
✅ Saved screenshots and relevant evidence
✅ Saved a record of the original post and apology
✅ Made a formal defamation report to Meta (FB operator),” he revealed in a subsequent post.

We only want this matter resolved through LEGAL CHANNELS.
Interestingly, Muslims who are aghast with the whims and fancies of the self-appointed halal watchdog have applauded the coffee shop in its mulling of a legal action against its administrator for having apparently turned its FB page into a racist site.

Bumiputera business consultant Ahmad Mohamad Afandi even summed up the entire modus operandi of the Halal Inquiry Company direktori [sic] as “play stupid game, win stupid prize”.
“When I criticised its increasingly harsh nature to the point of wanting to get a conversion to Islam confirmation card to prove that an eatery in run by Muslim/s, its supporters attacked me in the comment section of my social media,” recounted the founder/head coach of Orang Bisnes.
I could only swallow the harsh criticism to the extent as if I’ve become nescient from having consumed ‘haram’ food.
The saddest thing is that the Chinese owner of this restaurant has started asking were the donations received (to purchase SSM data so that more non-halal eateries can be exposed) audited and made public?
How do you wish to answer him?”– Aug 9, 2026
