PARTI Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) Datuk Larry Sng has called for the unity government to consider a Cabinet reshuffle now that the six state polls have been completed.
According to the Julau MP, in view of the minimal Malay support towards the administration, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should replace and promote some experienced Malay MPs into his Cabinet.
“[The Prime Minister should consider] the likes of former finance minister II Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and former health minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad,” Sng said in a statement on Facebook today (Aug 17).
“Perhaps through the appointment of Senatorship even Khairy Jamaluddin should be considered.”
Sng said the present set of ministers are still new to the job and have yet to leave their mark on policy matters.
“However, this government does not have the luxury of time. People are feeling poorer and not enough is being done to address this,” he remarked, further expressing concern that some in the government leadership might take the people’s patience and support for granted.
“We must not forget that politics is dynamic and voters support can change accordingly. If one needs proof, just look at the recent [state elections].”
Yesterday (Aug 16), speculations about a potential Cabinet reshuffle surfaced after the vacancy for the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister’s position for over three weeks had raised questions about the potential candidate for the portfolio.
This is following the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub’s demise on July 23.
This situation had also sparked speculation about a potential Cabinet reshuffle by Anwar after leading the government for nine months, NST reported.
Although the position is currently being held by Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of Sabah, Sarawak Affairs and Special Affairs, several other names have been mentioned to fill the vacancy.
Among the names that were mentioned included Adly Zahari, Minister of Defence and Alor Gajah MP as well as Dzulkefly, who is also Kuala Selangor MP.
Additionally, Johari’s name is also among those speculated to be appointed to a Cabinet position if the Prime Minister conducts a reshuffle within the Ministerial Council.
The Titiwangsa MP’s name has often been mentioned in relation to economic or entrepreneurial portfolios due to his extensive experience in the relevant field. – Aug 17, 2023
