Cops probing TikToker’s claim of foiled child-napping bid in Genting

THE Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM) is investigating a recent viral TikTok video that alleged that a child was almost abducted by a foreign woman in Genting Highlands, Pahang.

In a statement today, Bentong district police chief Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar said they received a police report last night (Sept 19) from the Genting Highlands security team over the matter.

“The Bentong district police also confirm that as of now, (we) have not received any police report from the parties involved (in the alleged kidnapping).

“However, we will investigate and contact the owner of the TikTok account in question to get further information about the incident in question,” he said.

Zaiham urged all parties to cooperate with the police on the case and for the public to give them room to do their work and not make any speculations.

In the viral 80-second TikTok video posted yesterday – which garnered over four million views as of press time – user @alfitry_azmi52 claimed that there was a possible kidnapping syndicate in Resorts World Genting.

The user said he was on an indoor theme park ride with his colleagues when they noticed one of their colleagues, who brought her child with her, being surrounded by two foreign women.

According to @alfitry_azmi52, one of the women, who he claimed was Pakistani, tried to hide the child in her telekung (praying veil) in an apparent child-napping incident.

The two women also acted suspiciously, as if they were trying to “hypnotise” his colleague, and eventually ran off when confronted by the group.

He further alleged that the theme park police were nowhere to be seen. However, luck was on their side as they managed to get the police from the casino to assist them in time.

The TikToker also clarified that he had no intention of tainting the image of Genting by uploading the video as he was merely spreading awareness about what happened and wanted parents to be alert of their children’s whereabouts in public places. – Sept 20, 2022
