MUAR MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is making the headlines after raising RM75,000 in his Langkah Muar run from his constituency to the Parliament.
The run is a sign of protest against the government for not allocating the Muar MP funds.
The government has urged all MPs to negotiate with the Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Haji Fadillah Yusof on the terms for the distribution of allocations.
However, Syed Saddiq has not complied with the demands and is using the courts to force the government to hand over allocations for Muar.
From Rembau, the MP announced that he managed to raise a total of RM74,970 in donations for ‘Langkah Muar’.
While he started running 25km to Seremban on Saturday (June 29) evening, he is getting some support online while pro-government supporters are still attacking him in his corruption case.
“There is still about 100km to go before I reach Parliament. I would like to say a million thanks to the contributors for ‘Langkah Muar’.
“As of 5pm this afternoon (Saturday), the total amount of donations for ‘Langkah Muar’ has reached RM74,970. I am forever indebted to everyone who is willing to contribute to Muo!” he said.
On Friday (June 28), he announced that he had managed to collect RM55,000 within 24 hours since he started running in the ‘Langkah Muar’ mission.
Tiada peruntukan daripada Kerajaan selepas meninggalkan Kerajaan Perpaduan.
That’s what YB @SyedSaddiq has to endure now.
He has two options:
1. Stay with MYR0 allocation and do nothing for Muar.
2. Do everything he can to get funds to help the people of Muar.He always… https://t.co/OUsVWL4Rgl

But will this guarantee Syed Saddiq a better future as an MP and as a politician? His past association with former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is still haunting him.
A large number of netizens feel he is a lackey of the elderly statesman.
On the other hand, the way he slammed the door on the unity government to join the opposition did not do any good for his party. He lost the leadership of MUDA after losing the corruption case against him.
Syed Saddiq, 30, was charged with abetting former Armada assistant treasurer Rafiq Hakim Razali, entrusted with RM1 mil of Armada’s funds, to commit CBT by misappropriating the funds.
On the second charge under Section 403 of the Penal Code, he was accused of misappropriating RM120,000 from Armada Bumi Bersatu Enterprise’s Maybank Islamic Bhd account by making Rafiq dispose of the money.
The High Court allowed Syed Saddiq’s application to stay the execution of all sentences pending appeal.
