STATUTORY declarations (SDs) are being signed to support Umno’s Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as prime minister and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (Bersatu) Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as his deputy, according to sources.
This is happening at the Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur hotel following the Bersatu meeting earlier today where Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin reportedly told the party’s top brass that he will tender his resignation to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong tomorrow morning.
With Muhyiddin’s exit in the horizon, the prime minister’s position is clearly up for grabs, especially since there is no single party with majority support at the moment.
Earlier today, Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz was reported to have signed an SD supporting Ismail Sabri as prime minister and had urged all Umno MPS to do the same to end the ongoing political turmoil.
“I’ve already signed and I think all Umno MPs should support this, including those who are opposed to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
“He is gone now, so there’s no reason not to sign,” Nazri told The Star.
Sources also told The Star that there is an ongoing effort to collect SDs supporting Ismail Sabri as prime minister. – Aug 15, 2021.
