COVID-19: 15,759 new cases, upward trend in Sarawak worrying

MALAYSIA continues to log a downtrend in the number of COVID-19 infections on Tuesday (Sept 21) with 15,759 new cases, thus bringing the cumulative total to 2,127,934.

In a tweet, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that 16,650 patients have recovered, with the total discharge now standing at 1,897,383.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, there were 334 deaths, bringing the death tally to 24,078.

Sarawak recorded the highest number of cases (3,732), surpassing Johor which had 1,959 cases. This is followed by Selangor (1,934) and Penang (1,417).

“Of the current active cases, 1,116 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 635 of them in need of ventilator support,” Noor Hisham remarked. – Sept 22, 2021
