Covid-19: 33 new cases, only three are locally infected Malaysians

HEALTH director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah shared that of the 33 new cases reported today, only three are of Malaysians who were infected locally.

Of the remaining 30, 16 are Malaysians from Egypt, the Netherlands, the UK, Vietnam, Korea, Singapore and the UAE, with the others being non-Malaysians.

This brings the total number of cases to 8,402, with active transmission cases standing at 1,115. Of these, four are in intensive care units, and none require ventilator support.

103 new recoveries were reported today, bringing the total number of discharged patients to 7,168. Another death was reported as well, bringing the death toll to 119.

With regards to students who are allowed to go back to school, Dr Noor Hisham noted that only students with symptoms are required to put on masks as the primary defence against infection is safe social distancing, which includes stopping students from using the canteen as a gathering point, instead instructing them to collect their food and eating in their classrooms.

Dr Noor Hisham was quite happy with the current setup required for the schools to reopen. – June 12, 2020
