COVID-19: 3,968 recoveries, 15 new clusters reported

THE Health Ministry reported 5,720 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday (Feb 3), a slight decrease from the 5,736 cases recorded the day before. 

This brings the cumulative infections in the country to 2,887,780. 

In a statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that of the new COVID-19 cases, 5,677 (99.2%) of the cases were Categories 1 and 2, while 43 (0.8%) were from Categories 3, 4 and 5 at the time of diagnosis. 

Categories one and two refer to patients with mild symptoms or none at all, category three refers to patients with pneumonia, while patients in categories four and five require oxygen and need ventilators, respectively. 

As of yesterday, the national infectivity rate has also broken the 1.0 threshold and is now at 1.14. 

States and territories with an R-naught above 1.0 are Perlis (1.24), Johor (1.20), Penang (1.19), Kedah (1.17), Sabah (1.16), Melaka (1.14), Putrajaya (1.14), Selangor (1.13), Negri Sembilan (1.11), Kuala Lumpur (1.09), Kelantan (1.08), Perak (1.07), Pahang (1.06), Terengganu (1.02) and Sarawak (1.02).  

An R-naught of 1.00 suggests an outbreak that has plateaued, while a figure above that indicates an outbreak that is accelerating its growth. 

Meanwhile, according to the CovidNow website, 3,968 patients have recovered, bringing the total to 2,794,354. 

There were eight deaths, with no brought in dead (BID) cases recorded for the day, thus bringing the death tally to 32,000. 

Of the current cases, 114 cases required treatment in intensive care units (ICU) and 56 cases needed respiratory assistance.  

Dr Noor Hisham added that there were 15 new clusters reported today. – Feb 4, 2022
