COVID-19: 6,323 cases on Nov 11, R-naught up to 0.99

MALAYSIA has recorded 6,323 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday (Nov 11) as the R-naught creeps up to 0.99.

The R-naught – or reproduction number for new COVID-19 cases – of more than 1.00 suggests that the spread of COVID-19 is accelerating. The R-naught has been on the uptrend since Oct 21.

The cumulative number of infections is currently 2,528,821.

In a statement, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham said that of the new COVID-19 cases, 6,226 (98.5%) were mild and asymptomatic infections in Categories one and two, while the remaining 97 (1.5%) were from Categories three, four and five.

Categories one and two refer to patients with mild symptoms or none at all, category three refers to patients with pneumonia, while patients in categories four and five require oxygen and need ventilators, respectively.

Meanwhile, according to the CovidNow website, 5,337 patients have recovered, bringing the total to 2,435,459.

There were 49 deaths, thus bringing the death tally to 29,535.

Of the current cases, 538 cases required treatment in intensive care units (ICU) and 274 cases needed respiratory assistance. – Nov 11, 2021
