THE Health Ministry has reported a total of 3,211 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the country’s third-highest increase in daily cases.
In a statement today, the ministry’s director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said there were 1,939 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 115,227.
“For now, the total number of infections stands at 151,066. Unfortunately, eight people have lost their lives to the virus, bringing the total number of fatalities to 586,” he said.
Those who perished were six men and two women, aged between 19 and 77. Seven of them were Malaysians.
Meanwhile, Selangor continued to record the highest number of cases today with 889 infections, followed by Johor (535) and Sabah (514).
On related matter, Noor Hisham announced that 12 new clusters have been discovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of active clusters to 635.
The 12 clusters are Jalan Telok Gong (Selangor), Lingkaran Lintang (Selangor), Persiaran Selatan (Johor), Jalan Kluang (Johor), Ladang Baturong (Sabah) and Ladang Matamba (Sabah) among others.
“I wish to announce that four clusters – Bah Medan, Jalan Dalam, Nibong and Dermaga –have ended,” he added. – Jan 15, 2021
