COVID-19: Active cases on an upward trend; ICU patients remain above 900

THE Health Ministry (MOH) has reported 6,982 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative total to 765,949.

In a tweet, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also reported that 6,278 patients have recovered from the infection, with the total discharged now stands at 694,538.

He noted that out of the total new cases recorded, 6,979 cases were local transmissions.

Currently, there are 66,084 active cases, in which 905 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 443 of them in need of ventilator support.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced that 73 people have succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 5,327.

Selangor continues to record the highest number of cases (2,907), followed by Kuala Lumpur (637) and Negeri Sembilan (606). – July 2, 2021
