MALAYSIA has recorded 5,162 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday (Nov 14), bringing the cumulative infections in the country to 2,546,309.
In a statement, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham said that of the new COVID-19 cases, 5,058 (98.0%) were mild and asymptomatic infections in Categories one and two, while the remaining 104 (2.0%) were from Categories three, four and five.
Categories one and two refer to patients with mild symptoms or none at all, category three refers to patients with pneumonia, while patients in categories four and five require oxygen and need ventilators, respectively.
The country’s infectivity rate or R-Naught (Rt) was at 1.05 compared to 1.04 on Saturday (Nov 13).
The R-naught – or reproduction number for new COVID-19 cases – of more than 1.00 suggests that the spread of COVID-19 is accelerating. The R-naught has been on the uptrend since Oct 21.
Meanwhile, according to the CovidNow website, 5,019 patients have recovered, bringing the total to 2,451,216.
There were 45 deaths, thus bringing the death tally to 29,676.
Of the current cases, 524 cases required treatment in intensive care units (ICU) and 265 cases needed respiratory assistance. – Nov 15, 2021
