COVID-19: Cases rise on Oct 5 with 96% jump in Selangor

MALAYSIA has logged 8,817 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday (Oct 5), with the cumulative total number of infections now at 2,285,640.

This is the third day in a row that the country has reported less than 10,000 cases.

In a tweet, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that 15,615 patients have recovered, with the total discharge now standing at 2,131,636.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, there were 117 deaths, bringing the death tally to 26,876.

Three states have more than 1,000 cases – Sarawak (1,361), Selangor (1,348) and Kelantan (1,063).

Cases in other states are as follows: Johor (886), Sabah (805), Pahang (696), Penang (595), Kedah (576), Perak (473), Terengganu (356), Melaka (246), Kuala Lumpur (217), Negri Sembilan (122), Perlis (47), Putrajaya (23) and Labuan (three).

“Of the current active cases, 846 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 441 of them in need of ventilator support,” Noor Hisham remarked. – Oct 6, 2021
