COVID-19: Cases above 2k mark, spike in healthcare staff testing positive

THE Health Ministry reported 2,062 COVID-19 cases today, with one fatality involving a foreign national in Labuan.

In a statement today, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 911 recoveries, bringing the total number of those cured from the virus to 79,304.

“With 2,062 new cases, the total number of those infected in the country is at 97,389. Unfortunately, we had one fatality today, bringing the total death tally to 439,” he said.

The deceased was a 69-year-old foreigner who suffered pre-existing medical condition.

Selangor continues to lead in the number of cases, with 1,014 infections, followed by Kuala Lumpur (504), Sabah (252) and Johor (167).

On related matter, Noor Hisham revealed that 1,880 healthcare staff have tested positive for COVID-19.

Based on a probe, he said that the majority of the infections were from healthcare workers (33%) and from the community (33%).

“Two clusters are linked to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Klang (HTAR). I urge all healthcare workers to adhere to our standard operating procedure,” he remarked. – Dec 22, 2020.
