COVID-19: Daily cases back up to 5k threshold, 78 fatalities

MALAYSIA has recorded 5,403 new COVID-19 cases on Nov 9, bringing the cumulative number of infections to 2,517,173.

In a statement, Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham said that of the new COVID-19 cases, 5,301 (98.1%) were mild and asymptomatic infections in Categories one and two, while the remaining 102 (1.9%) were from Categories three, four and five.

Categories one and two refer to patients with mild symptoms or none at all, category three refers to patients with pneumonia, while patients in categories four and five require oxygen and need ventilators, respectively.

Meanwhile, according to the CovidNow website, 5,311 patients have recovered, bringing the total to 2,425,943.

There were 78 deaths, thus bringing the death tally to 29,427.

Of the current cases, 542 cases required treatment in intensive care units (ICU) and 268 cases needed respiratory assistance. – Nov 10, 2021
