COVID-19: Death toll back to two-digits; active cases still above 80k mark

THE Health Ministry (MOH) has reported 7,748 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, a slight decrease from yesterday, bringing the cumulative total to 603,122.

In a statement, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also reported that 6,624 patients have recovered from the infection and total discharged now stands at 515,571.

He noted that out of the total new cases recorded, 7,746 cases were local transmissions while the rest are imported cases.

Currently, there are 84,369 active cases, in which 883 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 459 of them in need of ventilator support.

Meanwhile, 86 people have succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 3,182.

Selangor continues to record the highest number of cases (2,612), followed by Kuala Lumpur (815) and Negeri Sembilan (709). – June 4, 2021
