COVID-19: Downward trend continues, 1,095 people in ICU

MALAYSIA’S number of COVID-19 cases continued its downward trend, with the country recording 17,236 new infections today (Aug 9).

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah tweeted that this brought the cumulative number of cases in the country to 1,279,776.

He further announced that 15,187 patients have been cured, with the total discharged now stands at 1,041,585.

“212 people have succumbed today, bringing the death tally to 10,961,” he added.

One of the deaths today includes local celebrated singer, Siti Sarah Raisuddin (age 37), whose death was mourned by her husband along with thousands of her fans.

Sarah had been battling COVID-19 while pregnant with her fourth child, has succumbed to the disease while doctors had managed to rescue the baby.

Meanwhile, Selangor recorded the highest number of fresh cases with 5,740, followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,567), Kedah (1,328) and Sabah (1,247).

“Of the current active cases, 1,095 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 579 of them in need of ventilator support,” he remarked. – Aug 9, 2021
