COVID-19: Fatalities spike to 45, Gov’t mulls full lockdown for S’gor

WITH uncertainties lingering over the nation’s pandemic management, Malaysia recorded 4,446 cases today, bringing the cumulative total to 474,556.

In a tweet, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that 2,784 patients have been cured, with the total discharged now stands at 429,103.

“Forty-five people have died today, bringing the death tally to 1,947,” he added.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases again (1,650), followed by Sarawak (433), Johor (391) and Kelantan (343).

“Of the current active cases, 522 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 273 of them in need of ventilator support,” he remarked.

On related matter, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said that the Government has not ruled out imposing a full lockdown on Selangor if COVID-19 cases continue to spike in the state.

However, the minister added that it would depend on how the situations persists, standard operating procedure compliance (SOP) among the public and public health facilities ability to cope with the soaring cases.

“I agree that we may need to suggest to the Government for a stricter SOP and MCO to be enforced if we can’t contain the situation,” the Tenggara MP was reported saying.
