COVID-19: ICU patients surge to 240, new cases above 3k mark

THE Health Ministry has reported 3,339 COVID-19 cases and seven deaths in the past 24 hours.

In a statement today, Health Ministry’s director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said that there were 2,676 recoveries, bringing the total number of those recovered to 120,051.

With the 3,339 new cases, the total number of infections stands at 158,434. He also noted that 3,324 cases were local transmissions while the rest are imported infections.

Currently, 240 patients are in intensive care, with 93 requiring ventilator support.

Meanwhile, Selangor continued to record the highest number of cases today with 1,314 infections, followed by Sabah (393) and Johor (362).

On related matter, Noor Hisham announced that 10 new clusters have been discovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of active clusters to 651.

“I wish to announce that three clusters – Bayam Indah, Construction site Jesselton, dan Andalas – have ended,” he added. – Jan 17, 2021
