COVID-19: Infections hit record high above 24K, nearly 400 dead

COVID-19 cases in the country reached worrying heights as the authorities detected 24,599 infections today, bringing the cumulative total to 1,640,843.

In a tweet, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that 22,657 patients have been cured, with the total discharged now stands at 1,359,791.

“Three-hundred and ninety-three have died today, bringing the tally to 15,211,” he added.

Selangor recorded the highest number of fresh cases with 6,936, followed by Sabah (3,487), Johor (2,785) and Penang (2,078).

“Of the current active cases, 990 patients are still receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 487 of them in need of ventilator support,” he remarked. – Aug 24, 2021.
