COVID-19: Lowest death toll for the year, recoveries outpace new cases

THE Health Ministry announced 1,063 new COVID-19 infections and five deaths in the past 24 hours.

In a statement, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that there were 1,365 recoveries, bringing the total number of those recovered to 309,612.

“We have a total number of 326,034 infection cases as of now. Unfortunately, five people have lost their lives to the coronavirus, bringing the total death toll to 1,218,” he added.

All who died were locals.

As usual, Selangor detected the highest number of infections today at 323, followed by Sarawak (183) and Penang (175).

On related matter, Noor Hisham announced that his ministry has detected five new clusters in the country.

Three of them are community based while the rest are workplace related.

“With that, we have 428 active clusters. Eight clusters have ended today. Three clusters that contributed to the high number of cases today are Medan Bayan Lepas (58), Jalan Nusa Mega (28) and Kemuning Enam (28),” he remarked. – March 16, 2021.
