COVID-19: More than half of ICU patients require ventilator support

THE Health Ministry (MOH) has reported 5,293 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, a slight decrease from yesterday, bringing the cumulative total to 696,408.

In tweet, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also reported that 5,941 patients have recovered from the infection and total discharged now stands at 628,185.

He noted that out of the total new cases recorded, 5,286 cases were local transmissions while the rest are imported cases.

Currently, there are 63,815 active cases, in which 880 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 454 of them in need of ventilator support.

Meanwhile, 60 people have succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 4,408.

Selangor continues to record the highest number of cases (1,680), followed by Negeri Sembilan (693) and Sarawak (661). – June 20, 2021
