COVID-19: M’sia breaches the 3k threshold, active cases now over 128k

PUTTING everyone in jitters, the Health Ministry (MOH) today announced that Malaysia recorded a whopping 3,027 new COVID-19 infection cases, in the last 24 hours.

In a tweet, the ministry’s director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said that eight people have lost their lives to the virus.

With the 3,027 new cases, the total number of infections in the country is now at 128,465.

“There were also 2,145 recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 102,723.

“Unfortunately, eight people have died due to the coronavirus, bringing the total death tally to 521,” he said.

Topping the chart of new infection cases is Johor with 1,103 cases, followed by Selangor (706), Sabah (493) and Kuala Lumpur (316).

8k daily cases by end of May 

On related matter, Noor Hisham warned that Malaysia’s daily infection cases may spike to 8,000 cases by end of May, based on the current projection.

“Based on the SIER (Institute for Disease Modeling) chart, it is projected that we will breach the 5,000 mark for new infection cases daily by second week of April.

“Following that, we will hit 8,000 daily cases mark by end of May based on the forecast,” he added. – Jan 7, 2021.
