COVID-19: New cases breach 7k mark, situation in Klang Valley alarming

THE Health Ministry (MOH) has reported 7,654 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative total to 792,693.

In a tweet, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also reported that 4,797 patients have recovered from the infection, with the total discharged now standing at 714,815.

He noted that out of the total new cases recorded, 7,643 cases were local transmissions.

Currently, there are 72,201 active cases, in which 943 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 450 of them in need of ventilator support.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced that 103 people have succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 5,677.

Selangor continues to record the highest number of cases (3,260), followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,550) and Negeri Sembilan (698). – July 6, 2021
