AS the festive spirit continues to be in the air for many Malaysians, it only makes it more joyous with the news that new daily COVID-19 cases have now reached below the 1,500 mark, registering at 1,278 on Friday (May 6), three of which are imported cases.
This brings the country’s total number of cases to 4,454,113 since the pandemic began.
The number of COVID-19 deaths also continues to decrease, with only two casualties reported within the last 24 hours, none of which were brought in dead (BID), bringing the death toll to 35,569.
According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, 2,599 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the number to a total of 4,391,090 patients discharged since the COVID-19 outbreak started.
The number of hospital beds being used around the country have also decreased to 49%, with the intensive care units (ICUs) at 55% capacity.
Currently, 66 people are being treated in ICUs with a majority of them (36) in need of ventilator support.
Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the country is still on a downward trend, standing at 27,454 with 96.2% of them (26,407) being subjected to home quarantine. – May 6, 2022
