COVID-19: New cases on a downtrend; death toll back to three-digits

THE number of new COVID-19 infections in the country has been on a downward trend in the past few days.

The Health Ministry (MOH) has reported 5,419 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative total to 667,876.

In a statement, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also reported that 6,831 patients have recovered from the infection and total discharged now stands at 593,695.

He noted that out of the total new cases recorded, 5,413 cases were local transmissions while the rest are imported cases.

Currently, there are 70,112 active cases, in which 922 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 450 of them in need of ventilator support.

Meanwhile, 101 people have succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 4,069.

Selangor continues to record the highest number of cases (1,996), followed by Sarawak (718) and Kuala Lumpur (650). – June 15, 2021
