COVID-19: New infections breach 20k mark, more than half in Klang Valley

MALAYSIA’S daily infection rates breached the 20,000 mark today with 20,596 new infections recorded. The cumulative number of infections now stands at 1,203,706.

In a statement, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced that 13,893 patients have recovered, with the total discharged now stands at 976,626.

Meanwhile, 164 people have succumbed today, bringing the death tally to 10,019.

Selangor recorded the highest number of fresh cases with 8,549 infections, followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,163), Kedah (1,446) and Johor (1,300).

“Of the current active cases, 1,078 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 549 of them in need of ventilator support,” he remarked. – Aug 5, 2021
